Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Material Handler to support our manufacturing operations in Maple Heights, OH. The role involves handling materials, operating a forklift, and maintaining safety and accuracy in daily tasks.

You will work either days or nights with overtime as needed, and you will influence production flow by ensuring steady material supply and proper documentation. Competitive benefits apply from day one.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent (college a plus).
• 3–5 years of material handling experience with a powered forklift in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs and navigate stairs.
• Must pass pre-employment screenings, drug test, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety procedures and promote safety programs.
• Support converting equipment to ensure steady supply of materials and packing supplies.
• Move finished products from equipment to storage areas and ensure proper tagging.
• Inspect products for proper tagging and material identification.
• Transport products to staging areas and read/load tags.
• Maintain housekeeping per SQF/GMP standards.
• Perform daily forklift inspections and participate in inventories.
• Assist production and shipping staff as needed.

Job: Material Handler

Shift:

• Days: Monday - Thursday, 6 am - 4 pm EST. Overtime: Friday as needed
• Nights: Sunday Night - Wednesday Night, 8 pm - 6 am. Overtime - Thursday Night as needed.

Pay: $20.64 an hour, 1st pay increase after 60 days will bump up to $22.50/hr (plus shift differential - 3rd Shift: $0.40/ hr)

What you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Follow all safety procedures and promote safety & safety programs throughout the facility.
• Support all converting equipment to ensure accurate, steady supply of materials, WIP and packing supplies.
• Remove completed wrapped and tagged product from all converting equipment and transfer to designated storage stretch wrap and or banding areas.
• Inspect product to ensure tags are in place and accurately identify the material.
• Transport product to the staging area.
• Read, interpret, and understand all job Jackets, Spec Sheets, skid tags and product load tags.
• Minimize product damage through safe and careful handling.
• Ensure all paperwork and system transactions are completed timely and accurately.
• Maintain housekeeping excellence in accordance with SQF/GMP Housekeeping standards.
• Perform daily forklift inspections for each lift used.
• Participate in monthly physical inventories.
• Band and transport all skidded and roll scrap to scrap staging area.
• Assist all production and shipping personnel as needed.
• Ability to work safely, comply with all safety rules, lift, push or pull up to 100lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.

What you need to succeed:

• Desired candidate will possess a minimum of a high school education or equivalent. (College a plus)
• Preferred 3-5 years of material handling with a powered forklift and experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to lift, push and/or pull up to 50lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
• Must self-starting/self-motivated and able to work independently
• Ability to covert basic math, fractions to decimal, square foot, etc.
• Effective communication skills and excellent coordination skills.
• Great organizational and time management abilities.
• Basic computer knowledge. Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook.
• Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings, drug test, and criminal background check.
