Job summary

ROCKWOOL is seeking a Material Handler in Chicago, IL to operate powered industrial trucks, move materials, and supply machines with raw materials. You’ll unload materials, stage products, and help maintain a clean, safe manufacturing floor.

The role requires basic math and English reading skills, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to follow procedures accurately. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits begin on day one.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Good math, English reading skills and basic computer skills.
  • Strong safety awareness to prevent injuries.
  • Forklift certification and OSHA familiarity may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Move materials and products with powered trucks to support production.
  • Unload raw materials and stage finished goods per schedule.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and maintain a clean, safe workspace.
  • Follow inventory instructions and operate RF scanners when needed.

Material Handler

Chicago, IL 60638

Schedule: Monday - Thursday 2:30PM - 1:00AM

Pay: $20-$22/ hour

About the Role:

Operate powered industrial trucks to move materials and products to and from storage areas and machines, supply machines with raw materials, remove and empty scrap hoppers and stage finished products in staging areas.

What We're Looking For:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Good math, English language and reading skills; basic computer skills may be required
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self or others; promote a safe work environment
  • Follow instructions for operating equipment and keeping records
  • Execute assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner
  • Maintain a clean & safe environment
  • May be required to use RF scanner gun
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator's license may be required
  • Forklift certification per OSHA standards
What You'll Do:
  • Obtains copy of production schedule and transports material or equipment to and from designated areas and machines in the facility
  • Unloading raw materials from trucks or rail containers
  • Moving goods packed on pallets or in crates around the factory
  • Stacking goods in the correct staging areas, following inventory control instructions
  • Stacking empty pallets
  • Performing daily equipment checks such as watering the truck's battery
  • Dumping materials into scrap hoppers
  • Other activities as assigned

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly sitting on a powered industrial truck
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and adjust body position to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time
  • Having a good sense of balance
  • Having good eye-hand-foot coordination
  • Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season
