Job summary

Arcwood Environmental in Benton, AR is seeking a diligent Material Handler to support safe waste management operations. You will prioritize health and safety, load and unload waste streams, and operate equipment under applicable regulations.

You will document materials with barcode systems, review laboratory data for proper disposal, and ensure clean, organized work areas while adhering to EPA, DOT, OSHA standards and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year related experience.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize health and safety by following policies and procedures.
  • Load, unload, and process solid and liquid waste safely per regulations.
  • Operate a forklift and Bobcat with attachments.
  • Direct liquid waste through pumps to storage tanks.
  • Perform basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties.
  • Conduct chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions.
  • Use barcode systems to document inventory activities.
  • Review laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal.
  • Label inbound materials per DOT requirements for storage/shipping.
  • Use appropriate equipment to sample materials for analysis.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas; comply with EPA, DOT, OSHA standards.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Material Handler


  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and consistently maintaining safe practices

  • Loads, unloads and processes solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, Federal, State and Local rules and regulations

  • Operates a fork truck and Bobcat with attachments

  • Directs liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage

  • Performs basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed

  • Perform chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues

  • Utilizes barcode system equipment to document certain inventory activities

  • Reviews laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials

  • Uses Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge to match and label inbound materials for storage and shipping of containers to other sites

  • Utilizes proper equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks

  • Operates a hydraulic baler for cardboard and other materials

  • Maintains operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition

  • Utilizes knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, OSHA and permit regulations

  • Utilizes Arcwood coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers

  • Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection and a respirator

  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization


Education


  • High-school diploma or equivalent (required)


Experience


  • 1+ years of related experience (required)

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate (preferred)
