Job summary

Zipline is seeking a Material Flow Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering team in South San Francisco. You will design factory layouts, work methods, and capacity models to scale production reliably and connect demand, labor, equipment, space, and capital through time studies and line balancing on the factory floor.

You will turn observations into practical changes to station loading, layouts, and manufacturing capacity, identify bottlenecks, and propose investments in people,

Qualifications

• Experience with time studies, labor and capacity models.
• Line balancing, takt time, standard work and factory layouts.
• Ability to build operational and financial models for capital investment.
• Strong analytical skills with production data and ERP/MES tools.
• Hands-on problem solving and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Improve factory layouts, workstations, operator movement, and material presentation.
• Define WIP, buffer, queue, and rework strategies to protect output and reduce lead time.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Production, Supply Chain, and Material Planning on line architecture and replenishment.
• Lead time studies, standard work, and balance station loading against takt time.
• Build capacity and capital-investment scenarios for labor, equipment, tooling, and space.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements in throughput, utilization, or cost.
• Own factory performance and end-to-end production-system design.
• Develop KPIs, decision tools, and investment cases; drive improvements through implementation.
