Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Material Control Manager to oversee the Receiving, Shipping and Material Control functions across facilities.

You will manage administrative and physical tasks for shipping, receiving, storing, tracking and fulfilling material orders. Responsibilities include coordinating shipments with carriers, maintaining inventory data in ERP and MRP systems, and ensuring compliance with DoT and ITAR regulations.

Qualifications

Job Description

Summary: This Material Control Manager position is responsible for the development, management and maintenance of the Receiving, Shipping and Material Control functions for all the facilities under the MacCready Works Segment. The role performs administrative and physical tasks involved in shipping, receiving, storing, tracking, distributing and fulfilling material, supplies and equipment orders, maintaining records and generating reports for accounting, property and other functional areas. The primary responsibility is to control and track materials from receipt through storage to issue and shipment.

Position Responsibilities
Receiving
  • Receives incoming shipments of parts and equipment, verifies parts and quantities against purchase orders, and processes transactions and paperwork in real time.
  • Performs inspection of shipment as required.
  • Transfers parts and equipment to the appropriate stockroom and processes respective paperwork.
Shipping
  • Works with Program Management and Contracts personnel to identify shipping requirements and methods, coordinate shipments for commercial, DoD and international conveyance with shipping carriers and validate shipment compliance integrity for delivery of products and equipment.
  • Co‑ordinates shipments with identified carriers and performs administrative duties in support of shipments as required.
  • Executes shipping processes including packaging, labeling and shipment of product.
Material Control
  • Interfaces and coordinates directly with engineers and program managers on status and distribution of project and contract material and supplies.
  • Receives and counts items in each stockroom and records data using a computerized system.
  • Verifies inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, investigates discrepancies and identifies errors.
  • Issues or distributes materials, products, parts and supplies to engineers and program managers as required by their respective project or contract.
  • Take responsibility for an assigned portion of the daily output of the stockroom in support of production and engineering development projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of eight years of related functional experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency using office software and a computerized inventory control system.
  • Consistently demonstrates strong problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of DoT and international shipping regulations.
  • Familiarity with commercial electronics shipping practices and handling methods.
  • Experience with purchase order and inventory control data in a computerized MRP system.
  • Experience supporting FAA and DoT audits as well as providing administrative support.
  • Experience utilizing UPS, DHL or FedEx online shipping system.
  • Prior forklift experience and or certification is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required in order to drive company vehicles.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
  • Strong computer skills – proficiency with ERP databases and Microsoft suites.
  • Demonstrates ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where small R&D teams share a broad variety of duties.
  • Prior Hazmat shipping experience (lithium-ion or equivalent) is desired.
  • Knowledge of safe material handling practices and safe handling of electro-static sensitive components is desired.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Teamwork, collaboration and putting the success of the team above one’s own interests.
  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives.
  • Champions the process of change and promotes a culture of quick adaptation while helping others deal with the effects of change.
  • Works well with others to accomplish tasks in support of the project plans.
  • Tracks down and resolves discrepancies successfully.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in an office, warehouse and assembly environment.
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard.
  • May operate dolly and/or pallet jack for loading and unloading supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to sixty pounds and objects of varying sizes and ships for shipment to and set up in various training sites and customers.
Special Requirements
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Have or ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
  • May be required to travel within the continental U.S.

Salary Range

$19 – $29.

ITAR Requirement

This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations and/or the Export Administration Regulations. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR or be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology is subject to its jurisdiction.
