Job description

Help keep production moving as a Material Control Specialist. In this role, you will help ensure materials are available, accurately controlled, and verified to quality requirements so production and customer delivery commitments can be met.

Job Summary

The Material Control Specialist is responsible for the reliable flow, control, and traceability of materials throughout the Material Control area. This role helps protect product quality, inventory accuracy, production continuity, and on-time delivery by coordinating material movement, incoming inspection, replenishment, outside processing, and inventory reporting. Success in the role means materials and records are accurate, discrepancies are addressed promptly, and internal customers have what they need when they need it.

What You’ll Do
  • Ensure production and outside-service orders have the correct materials when needed by picking inventory accurately using first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices and bill-of-material requirements.
  • Maintain an accurate and timely flow of materials by receiving, locating, transferring, and issuing items in accordance with established procedures.
  • Protect product quality by verifying incoming components and raw materials against blueprint drawings and documented inspection requirements using calibrated measurement equipment.
  • Provide reliable material traceability by ensuring inventory transactions, labels, job paperwork, and electronic records are complete, accurate, and consistent.
  • Help prevent material shortages and avoid excess inventory by monitoring established minimum and maximum stock levels and initiating replenishment at the appropriate time.
  • Support assembly schedules and customer delivery commitments by monitoring jobs and components sent to outside process providers and coordinating required completion dates.
  • Maintain confidence in inventory balances by completing cycle counts, periodic physical counts, and monthly reporting; investigate discrepancies and support corrective actions that reduce recurring errors.
  • Prevent nonconforming or incorrectly documented material from entering production by resolving labeling and paperwork inconsistencies and initiating quarantine or nonconforming-product processes when required.
  • Help ensure completed products are prepared for on-time shipment by transferring jobs to Shipping based on required ship dates and providing backup support for packing and shipping activities.
  • Build consistent Material Control practices across the team by training colleagues and serving as a resource for inventory, labeling, inspection, and recordkeeping processes.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and continuously improving work environment by maintaining the Material Control area and contributing to quality, safety, and process-improvement efforts.
  • Contribute to team and business priorities by performing other related duties as assigned.
