Job summary

The Dutra Group is seeking a Master Captain of Towing Vessels in San Rafael, CA. You will oversee the operation and safety of towing vessels supporting marine construction and dredging activities.

Responsibilities include wheelhouse watch, regulatory compliance, and leading crew safety meetings. Requires USCG Master 200GT inland waters and towing vessel experience with the ability to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid USCG Merchant Mariner Credential with Master 200GT for Inland waters and Master of Towing Vessels or higher credentials with towing vessel experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with crew and management.
• Ability to apply safety procedures and regulatory requirements consistently.
• Regular and predictable physical presence on the vessel is required.
• Willingness to work 12-hour shifts and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for safety and management of the crew and vessel.
• Stand wheelhouse watch on assigned vessel.
• Comply with all state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Prepare, manage, and conduct safety meetings and drills.
• Delegate daily tasks to crew to ensure operational readiness.
• Oversee mentoring and training of crew.
• Follow company safety policies and maintain an accident-free work environment.
