Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) is seeking a Markets Research and Development Senior Engineer to analyze electricity markets, develop modeling tools, and deliver data-driven insights. You will collaborate with engineers, analysts, and operators to apply optimization and operations research techniques to real-world grid and market challenges.

The role requires a strong background in power engineering or related fields, with 4+ years of experience; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience.
• Master’s or PhD preferred.
• Experience in electricity market design, operations, or R&D.
• Software design for electricity markets preferred.
• Strong knowledge of market principles; NERC/FERC compliance.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data, evaluate multiple solutions, and recommend actions.
• Develop and maintain modeling tools, run simulations, and analyze results.
• Preprocess and examine energy market data from multiple sources.
• Apply optimization, power engineering, control theory to develop algorithms.
• Document findings with reports, charts, and presentations.
• Collaborate with market design, operations, researchers and partners.
• Move concepts to production, delivering measurable value to MISO.
