Job summary

MISO is seeking a Principal Market Design Engineer to evaluate wholesale electricity markets today and design future operation requirements. You will analyze system and market performance, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable improvements for reliability and efficiency.

Collaborate with engineers, economists, and technology teams to advance market design initiatives, models, and tariffs, communicating complex results to stakeholders and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering and analytical studies of system and market operations, including participant activity, pricing trends, supply and demand imbalances, market anomalies, and overall market efficiency.
• Develop and evaluate new or enhanced wholesale electricity market design initiatives as industry and grid needs continue to evolve.
• Assess the impact of proposed market changes on market structure, competitiveness, efficiency, reliability, and power system operations.
• Recommend and help implement improvements to market models, optimization algorithms, and policy provisions.
• Develop and monitor key market performance indicators to evaluate market conditions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Analyze market and operational data to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed market rule and tariff changes.
• Review MISO market systems for alignment with tariff requirements and recommend system or tariff modifications when appropriate.
• Collaborate across engineering, economics, technology, and other disciplines to develop solutions to complex market design challenges.
• Clearly communicate complex technical findings and market design proposals to internal teams, leadership, and MISO stakeholders.
