Marketing Configuration Specialist, Automation

McClatchy Media is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Marketing Configuration Specialist, Automation, who is responsible for building, configuring and optimizing automated marketing workflows within McClatchy’s Braze ecosystem. This role is instrumental in scaling audience engagement through structured automation, ensuring data integrity and enabling performance-driven refinements to campaigns. The Automation Specialist works in close alignment with the Marketing Automation & Orchestration Manager and partners closely with the Orchestration Specialist to deliver seamless non-subscriber engagement experiences.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between 65k and 80k annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography, and local wage and hours laws.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Configure and maintain automated workflows and campaigns, ensuring efficiency, scalability and accuracy within Braze based on project goals and outlines provided by Marketing Automation & Orchestration Manager
  • Monitor automation systems for errors, latency, or performance issues; troubleshoot and escalate as needed in partnership with CRM Data Analyst
  • Develop and execute A/B and multivariate testing strategies to optimize campaign automation performance.
  • Ensure data governance across automated journeys by validating input sources, segmentation logic and performance triggers.
  • Collaborate with the Orchestration Specialist to align automation processes with real-time engagement initiatives.
  • Assist in the implementation of Liquid Logic to personalize content within automated campaigns.
  • Support QA efforts, documentation and campaign auditing to uphold standards and best practices.
  • Contribute insights and recommendations based on campaign analytics and post-implementation performance data.
  • Stay informed on automation trends and platform capabilities, with a focus on Braze and Amplitude integration.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Braze and event-based automation workflows.
  • Proficiency in Liquid Logic and basic HTML/CSS for email and messaging template adjustments.
  • Understanding of customer data models and segmentation in lifecycle marketing.
  • Experience with A/B and multivariate testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Amplitude or similar analytics platforms for campaign performance tracking.
  • Excellent organizational and troubleshooting skills; detail-oriented with a passion for systems efficiency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; preferably in marketing, or the equivalent education, experience, skills and knowledge needed to perform the tasks and responsibilities of the position.
    • Minimum qualifications: Two years of experience in field or in comparable fields, Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university preferred; computer skills.
