Job summary

The Marketing Communications Student Writer position at Mercer University, Macon Campus, involves producing stories for online and print publications and crafting press releases and pitches for university events.

You will support social media content and video projects, fact-check Faculty Notables for Bear Briefings, and prepare media-hit summaries for PR reports. Start 09/01/2026; End 04/30/2027; Pay $11/hr; 10 scheduled hours per week.

Qualifications

  • The student writer must have excellent journalistic writing skills, interest in public relations and marketing, and knowledge of AP Style.
  • Must be a self-starter with good communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be dependable and able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Write stories about students, faculty, staff and alumni for University online and print publications.
  • Write press releases and media pitches for selected University and student-oriented events.
  • Write hometown news releases on student and faculty achievements.
  • Write and fact check Faculty Notables for the Bear Briefings e-newsletter.
  • Work on media hits summaries for public relations reports.
  • Work with shooting and producing video for the web.
  • Assist with social media content as needed.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications on other projects.
