Job description

Singularity is an aerospace and defense startup headquartered in Gardena, CA. Our founding team hails from SpaceX, Anduril, and Lockheed Martin, and we are backed by Joint Staff-level military leadership and several Silicon Valley firms. Our first product is a low-cost air defense system built for immediate deployment worldwide. With a world-class business development and leadership team already in place, we are well positioned to capitalize on already overwhelming demand.

Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Manager will lead day-to-day marketing and communications for Singularity Defense, from strategy through hands‑on execution. As the Company’s first hire in this function, the Manager will build the Company’s visual brand and messaging, take ownership of creative production and other work currently handled by an outside agency, lead trade show and media presence, and equip Business Development with the materials it needs to win. The role works directly with executive leadership, program teams, and Business Development, and ensures all external communications comply with export control requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy: Develop and execute the marketing and communications strategy aligned with the product roadmap and BD priorities.
  • Brand & Content: Maintain and apply brand standards and messaging across all channels. Own the website, LinkedIn and social channels, newsletters, data sheets, case studies, and other collateral, writing and producing much of it directly.
  • Creative & Visual Brand: Build the Company’s visual brand and own creative production, including photo and video of the team and major milestones. Manage productions such as product launch videos, working with outside vendors as needed.
  • Public Relations: Write and distribute press releases and build relationships with defense trade press, industry analysts, and partner communications teams.
  • Trade Shows & Events: Coordinate cross‑functional marketing campaigns, advertising efforts, and events, including the Company’s presence at industry trade shows, conferences, and partner events (e.g., AUSA, Sea‑Air‑Space, Space and Missile Defense Symposium, AFA Warfare Symposium), such as booth strategy, executive briefings, and supporting collateral.
  • BD & Capture Support: Partner with Business Development on pitch materials, customer briefings, and proposal content.
  • Performance Reporting: Track engagement metrics and campaign performance, and report results to leadership to inform future strategy.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate with Legal, Security, and Export Control functions to ensure that all external communications comply with ITAR, EAR, and other applicable regulations governing defense‑related content. Review photo, video, and other visual content with Legal and Security before release.
  • Internal Communications: Support internal communications on company strategy and major announcements.
  • Build the Function: Manage existing agency relationships, transition agency‑managed work, including creative, in‑house, and manage the agency relationship through the handoff, oversee the marketing tool stack and budget, and help define future hiring needs as the Company grows.
Core Skills Needed
  • Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and editorial abilities, with demonstrated capacity to translate complex technical information for a range of audiences.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and cross‑functional projects concurrently.
  • Digital Tools: Proficiency with web content management systems, marketing automation and CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce), and social media management tools.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to review performance metrics and apply findings to optimize the effectiveness of future campaigns.
  • Self‑Starter: Comfortable operating as the sole in‑house marketing resource.
  • Creative Direction: Experience directing photo and video production, in‑house or through vendors, and a strong visual sense for brand.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or public relations, including meaningful experience within aerospace, defense, government contracting, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated experience developing go‑to‑market and communications strategy for technical or complex products.
  • Experience building or significantly scaling a marketing function at an early‑stage or growth‑stage company.
  • Working knowledge of export control considerations (ITAR/EAR) as applicable to marketing and public communications, or a demonstrated ability to acquire such knowledge promptly.
  • Superior writing, editing, and executive‑communication skills, with the ability to translate technical content for varied audiences.
  • Experience planning and executing a company’s presence at industry trade shows and conferences.
  • U.S. Person status as defined under ITAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual), owing to this position’s access to export‑controlled information.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with Business Development, Capture, or Proposal teams within a government contracting environment.
  • Prior experience with a defense prime, government agency, or technology company serving the defense sector.
