Job summary

IM Houston, based in Houston, TX, seeks a versatile Communications professional to develop and execute materials for internal and external audiences, with a focus on media relations, digital content, and brand management. The role spans writing, graphic design, social media, and website updates to support program goals.

Responsibilities include crafting messages, articles, and press materials; managing social channels; producing marketing copy; and collaborating on photography and videography

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Three years minimum of experience in communications, including writing, graphic design and social media.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and to work over 40 hours/week at times.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and adapt to change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop partnerships, foster teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance as required by law.

Responsibilities

  • Public relations support: assist with outreach to media; update and manage media contact list; draft and distribute press releases; provide monthly reports on media outreach and placements.
  • Marketing and Brand Management Support: update and create written marketing materials for print and digital use; storytelling to promote all IM programs; create and maintain brand guidelines for Canva and other platforms used by IM staff members across programs.
  • Content Management: develop and maintain an archive and strategy for files related to Marketing and Communications across programs; update client stories and photos annually.
  • Vendor Management: manage annual procurement process for agency printing; conduct annual inventory of print marketing materials across agency.
  • Project management: assist with tracking projects through Monday platform.
  • Social Media Management: manage content creation, scheduling, and implementation for social media across Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook, Threads; collect data and create monthly reports.
  • Graphic Design: provide graphic design as needed for projects across IM programs and events.
  • Website: provide copy and search engine optimization for website as needed.
  • Communications: provide writing for a variety of IM print and digital publications.
  • Photography: provide onsite and offsite photography as needed.
  • Videography: conduct video interviews as a backup when needed.
  • Google Ads: provide collaborative reporting and ad management.
  • Volunteer Houston Support: assist VH with general and disaster-related tasks.

About the Role

Leveraging your education in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or a related field combined with your proven experience in a combination of business, marketing communications, web design and/or writing roles in a business environment, preferably for nonprofits, you will develop and execute communications materials tailored for internal and external audiences, to achieve business goals.

You will be skilled at planning and executing communications activities such as the development of key messages, talking points and Q&A, marketing copy, and be well versed in the effective use of social media.

You will execute internal and external communications. This includes graphic design, developing digital communication tools, developing a strategy for, and posting on social media, writing articles for internal and external publications for digital and/or print distribution as well as website content/maintenance support.

Utilize your knowledge and experience using a broad range of creative digital tools to provide daily maintenance of the website, graphic design for digital and print, and writing for a variety of marketing and communications needs.

Your ability to monitor and measure the effectiveness of communications through digital analytics, and other key performance indicators, will be helpful as you make data-driven recommendations.

Responsibilities
  • Public relations support: Assist with outreach to media; update and manage media contact list; draft and distribute press releases, add press releases to IM website as requested. Provide monthly reports on media outreach and placements.
  • Marketing and Brand Management Support: update and create written marketing materials for print and digital use; storytelling to promote all IM programs; create and maintain brand guidelines for Canva and other platforms used by IM staff members across programs.
  • Content Management: Develop and maintain an archive and strategy for files related to Marketing and Communications- both paper and digital- containing content to be used across multiple platforms. Update client stories and photos annually to maintain a up-to date archive of program material to be used across platforms.
  • Vendor Management- Manage annual procurement process for agency printing. Conduct annual inventory of print marketing materials across agency and gaps that need to be filled.
  • Project management- assist with tracking projects through Monday platform.
  • Social Media Management: Manage content creation, development, scheduling, and implementation for social media across the following platforms: Instagram, Linkedln, Twitter/X, Facebook, & Threads while managing audience response. Collect data on social media audience growth and analyze it to better target future messaging. Create monthly reports of social media metrics. Social media management will be shared with the Director of Marketing and Communications.
  • Graphic Design: Provide graphic design as needed for projects across multiple IM programs and events.
  • Website- provide copy and search engine optimization for website as needed.
  • Communications: Provide writing for a variety of IM print and digital publications (e.g.- client stories, blog posts, Mosaic newsletter, annual report, stories for articles in press, etc.)
  • Photography- provide onsite and offsite photography as needed.
  • Videography- conduct video interviews as a backup when needed.
  • Google Ads- provide collaborative reporting and ad management.
  • Volunteer Houston Support- assist VH as needed with general and disaster-related tasks. The need for this support should lessen as the VH staff is trained.
