JERA Global Markets Houston seeks an Analyst, Market Risk to support risk management for North American gas trading. You will join a growing team focusing on US natural gas trading, optimisation, and market development across North America.

You will work with the Market Risk team in Houston to design, implement and improve risk control frameworks, providing quantitative and qualitative analyses for decision-making.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of market risk experience in commodities trading, preferably US gas and power.
  • A background in risk management within energy/commodity trading or investment banking.
  • Strong mathematical, statistical and quantitative analysis skills.
  • Ability to work across time zones in a global team.
  • Proficiency in Excel, VBA and Python for risk reporting and modelling.
  • Knowledge of VaR, scenario analysis, back testing and stress testing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly market risk reports (VaR, options, stress tests).
  • Perform quantitative analysis of portfolio risk across commodities and products.
  • Deliver ad-hoc analyses for onboarding new business and products.
  • Support digitalization and automation to improve information flow.
  • Collaborate on IT systems development to enhance risk tools and infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Description

This role forms part of JERA's growing North American Gas Trading business, which is expected to transition onto JERAGM’s trading platform. This business is wholly owned by JERA Co., Inc. and will focus on US natural gas trading,optimisationand market development across North America. Successful candidates will join during the build-out phase ahead of the business's planned operational launch.

Theanalyst, Market Risk, reporting intothe manager,based in Houston, willsupportthebusiness in all key market risk management matters affecting the organisation.

TheMarket Riskteamin Houston officeis a part oftheMiddleOffice Functionin Houston officeand is responsible for the design and implementation of suitable market risk control frameworks and providing both quantitative and qualitative market risk analysis and risk control solutionsto support effective risk management and business decision making.

This is a key role for risk and control within JERAGM: in addition to the Market Risk-specific coverage, theanalyst, Market Risk will also beperformtasks based onmanager’s instruction.You will partner with the other Risk and Control teams within the Middle Office Function, as well as the broader Supporting Functions, to ensure that the Risk Control Framework is effective and to continuously improve its efficiency and scale.

Key Role Responsibilities

Overseeing the Risk teams in GMA, this rolewillbe responsible for:

  • Responsible for preparing daily,weeklyand monthly market risk reports, includingVaR, options and stress testing
  • Key role in the quantitative analysis of the risk profile of the company’s portfolio across commodities and products
  • Deliver ad-hoc analysis to support Market Risk and Middle Office activities (such as onboarding new business and products), as directed by the Manager, Market Risk
  • Support ongoing digitalization and automation efforts to improve information flow and reduce manual processes across the business
  • Collaborate on IT systems development and testing to enhance risk tools and infrastructure, as well as onboarding new products
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by having the courage to challenge established processes. This includesidentifyinginefficiencies in operations and opportunities to streamline and automate shared processes and interfaces
  • Assistin the development, enhancement, and validation of market risk models
  • Ensureaccurateandtimelyvalidation ofoptionbookings
  • Provide analytical support for the Risk Manager in relation to NBC and GRC
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a global, hybrid working team
QUALIFICATIONS
Key Qualifications and Experience
Experience
  • Between 4 and 7years of relevant market risk experience, in the commodities trading field, preferably in US gas and power.Experience in other commodities (LNG, coal, freight, and other gas or power markets) is also beneficial.
  • A background in risk management within an energy or commodity trading company, or Tier-1 investment bank.
  • Agraduate qualification in any or a combination of the following subject areas: Mathematics / Statistics, Econometrics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Finance, Computing and Business, or equivalent.
  • Ideally a post-graduate qualification in any or a combination of the following subject areas: Mathematics / Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Actuarial Sciences, Quantitative Finance or Financial Engineering, Econometrics, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Goodknowledge of Value-at-Risk, scenario analysis, back testing / stress testing, expected shortfall, and other market risk techniques.
  • Knowledge of the market risk associated with physical commodities, traded and real option portfolios.
  • Exposure to both physical and financial energy markets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel,VBAand Python.
  • KnowledgeofEKA,Allegro, FEA,Topaz,Endur, Power BI,Matlab, SQL or other data analytics or quantitative analytics packages may be useful.
  • Derivatives valuation,pricingand quantitative risk modelling experience highly valued, including structured gas options (i.e. gas storage and swing)
