RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Description
This role forms part of JERA's growing North American Gas Trading business, which is expected to transition onto JERAGM’s trading platform. This business is wholly owned by JERA Co., Inc. and will focus on US natural gas trading,optimisationand market development across North America. Successful candidates will join during the build-out phase ahead of the business's planned operational launch.
Within JERAGM’s US business, the Credit functionis responsible forall aspects of credit risk management including pre-deal counterparty assessments, contractual and credit support negotiations, portfolio credit exposure management (including mitigation), default probability assessments, and credit risk capital assessments.
As a global trading business, JERAGM has counterparty exposure in Asia, EMEA, the U.S., and Latin America. The quality of our counterparties ranges from large,listed utilities and global trading companies to small single ship owning organisations. Trading relationships range from bilateral commodity sales and purchasesto complex structured transactions with SPVs (IPPs for example).
The current position willbe located inHoustonoffice.TheAnalyst,CreditRiskin Houston officewill reportinto theManager, Credit Risk inHoustonoffice.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Counterparty Credit Assessment:Conduct credit analyses on new and existing counterparties toidentifykey risks, recommend internal credit ratings, propose credit limits and structures, and advise on contractual credit terms.
- Exposure Assessment and Collaboration:Work closely with theJERAGMQuantitative Credit Analysts to ensure Potential Future Exposure (PFE) of both new and existing transactions is understood and incorporated into credit assessments.
- KYC & Compliance Support:Assist KYC and Compliance Analysts as they perform Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks,supporting them as they ensure compliance with the firm’s policies and regulatory requirements, andcollaborating on the onboarding of new and review of existing counterparties in thecredit risk system(Cube Logic).
- Stakeholder Engagement:Maintainclose working relationships with a) Front Office teams to align commercialobjectiveswith credit risk considerations as well as b) other Risk,Supportand IT Functions to support daily operations.
- Daily Monitoring of Credit Exposure:Monitor and report daily counterparty credit exposures to ensure trading activitiesremainwithin approved credit limits and aligned with internal risk guidelines.
- Key Risk Indicator Reporting:Support the Credit team in preparing and delivering Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and other risk reports on an ad hoc basis.
- Agreement and Credit Support Negotiation:Support the Creditand Legalteamsinthenegotiation ofcredit terms and covenants in commodity trading agreement as well as credit supports in collaboration withthe GMAFront Office teams;
- Market and Sector Surveillance:Regularly review assigned sectors and regions toidentifycredit-relevant events or emerging risks and recommendappropriate mitigationactions.
- Credit System Maintenance:Ensure the credit risk system(Cube Logic)is kept up to date withaccuratedata and support ongoing data quality assurance processes.
- Project and Process Improvement Support:Contribute to credit risk transformation initiatives, process enhancements, and system improvements as directed by the Credit Risk Managersin GMA and/or Senior Manager, Credit Riskin JERAGM.
QUALIFICATIONS
Key Qualifications and Experience
Experience
- 3to7years’ experience in credit, risk management, or financial analysis within a trading firm, bank, or ratings agency is desirable.
- Exposure to commodities markets, energy products(onshore US gas and power), or shipping (coal, LNG, freight) is a plus but notrequired–training will be provided.
- Experience supporting or leading the negotiation of credit-related clauses and contractual documentation (e.g. ISDA, SCoTA, MSPA) is highly desirable but training will be provided.
Technical
- Degree-qualified or equivalent professional certification in finance, economics, business, or a related discipline.
- Financial, qualitative, and credit analysis capabilities, with the ability to interpret financial statements and assess counterparty risk.
- Familiarity with energy markets, especiallyUS onshore gas, US power,coal, LNG, and freight.
- Proficiencyin English–both written and spoken–is essential;additionallanguage fluency is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with credit risk systems such as CubeLogic, as well as tools like Excel PivotTables, is a plus.
- Basic understanding of data tools such as S&P Capital IQ, Python, and Power BI is an advantage and encouraged for future development.
