Department/Division: Market Risk Team / Middle Office Division

Reports Directly To: Risk Director

Summary
The Market Risk Analyst is responsible for calculating and reporting daily trade portfolio profit and losses arising from price changes, current exposures to the market as well as VaR. Responsibilities include but are not limited to producing monthly realized profit summary and net earned to accounting results reconciliation. This position requires strong analytical and communication skills.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Calculate and report daily Position and P&L associated with power trading activities.
- Analyze P&L drivers and provide detailed explanations regarding portfolio changes.
- Develop tools to enhance analysis and improve processes.
- Monitor risk using VaR calculations and periodic stress testing.
- Model complex new trading activities in the reporting processes as well as in our ETRM (Allegro).
- Provide pricing support and backup for the settlements team as needed.
- Perform monthly realized profit reporting as well as net earned to accounting reconciliations.
- Collaborate with Front office, Credit, Confirmations, Settlements and Accounting teams as needed.
Qualifications

- Advanced excel skills with the ability to utilize analysis driven functions such as sumifs, vlookups, index match/xlookup and pivot tables.
- Proven ability to analyze data and identify variances between 2 datasets.
- Proven ability to understand and explain complex concepts.
- Proven ability to effectively and clearly communicate with various levels across an organization.
- Proven ability to develop and implement excel models.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, VBA, SQL, R.
- Knowledge of physical and financial commodity trading concepts such as exposures, pricing and hedging.
- Experience working within an ETRM system such as Allegro, Openlink Endur or RightAngle.
Desired Skills & Abilities
- Proven experience utilizing quantitative tools and analysis techniques, including Monte Carlo simulations.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s degree preferred; focus on Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or another relevant field.
- 1-3 years’ (Analyst I) or 2-4 years’ (Analyst II) in an analytical role preferably in the energy industry.
Language Skills
- Fluent verbal and written skills in English.
Licenses, Certificates, Registrations
- Series 3 or FRM preferred but not required
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and may need to routinely move around to communicate with different groups
- Occasionally work late to meet with Tokyo office
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must have a valid DL.
