Job summary

International Registries, Inc. seeks a Technical Specialist to work with the Regional Technical Manager, applying knowledge of IMO codes and ship operations to advise stakeholders. The role includes reviewing technical queries, preparing written communications, and supporting IT and compliance processes.

Travel may be required. Candidate should have a maritime-focused education and 3–5 years of experience, with strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

Job description

The Technical Specialist works closely with Regional Technical Manager with expanded duties as experience dictates. The individual should have a basic understanding of the general arrangement and operations of various ship types and how the main Conventions affect the construction, operation, survey, and maintenance of a ship with a working knowledge of on board maintenance and servicing requirements of life-saving and fire-fighting systems. Should be capable of timely and accurate review of incoming queries and recommendations provided by Recognized Organizations.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Interprets IMO and other relevant codes to advise stakeholders.
  • Independently assess and recommend solutions for all vessel types.
  • Prepares written correspondence.
  • Understand the disciplines of the Service Area, becoming familiar with the following.
    • IT systems and Help desk
    • Trade/Corporate compliance
    • Technical Status Board
    • Standard Operating Procedures
  • Review and respond to technical queries as assigned on the Technical Status Board in specific area of expertise
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Complexity of assignments will increase with experience.

Education

Bachelor's Degree

Maritime Specific Education and Experience:
  • Maritime Specific Degree and Certifications.
  • Suitable maritime experience forming a basis for which to be further trained as an external ISM/ISPS auditor and MLC inspector on behalf of the Administrator (for example, but not limited to, experienced ex-seafaring officer, technical superintendent, qualified internal auditor, marine inspector, Class surveyor) would be an advantage.

Years of Experience: 3-5 years.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Salary Compensation range: $120,000 - $130,000
