Job description

We are actively interviewing for the following opportunity.

We are one of the world's largest and fastest-growing global ship registries, overseeing regulatory compliance and safety for an international fleet of over 6,500 vessels. As our fleet continues to expand, we are looking for a dedicated Technical Manager to join our Regulations and Standards team in either our Dulles, VA or Miami, FL headquarters.

In this role, you will be our resident "master of the rules." You will serve as a crucial technical authority for shipowners, ship managers, and classification societies globally. If you are a former Classification Society Surveyor, a Port/Flag State Inspector, or a Licensed Master/Chief Engineer looking to transition fully ashore with zero travel required, this is an incredible opportunity to leverage your technical expertise on a massive, global scale.

The Reality of the Role:

We believe in full transparency with our candidates. This is a highly demanding, fast-paced desk role. We receive hundreds of technical requests daily and pride ourselves on a strict 24-hour turnaround time to support our clients.

While standard office hours apply, we expect our team to be dedicated to seeing the day's tasks through to completion. You must also be flexible, as you may occasionally receive an after-hours call from our global duty officers to assist with a vessel in distress in another time zone. Note: While you will be making a global impact on vessel compliance, this is a 100% in-office role with zero routine travel required.

What You Will Do:
  • Technical Triage: Receive, review, and respond to technical requests from global shipowners and class societies, including evaluating eligibility for regulatory exemptions, equivalencies, and dispensations.
  • Regulatory Guidance: Provide technical interpretations of international conventions, codes, and instruments (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM, ISPS, LSA, FSS, etc.).
  • Program Oversight: Oversee our IMO fuel oil consumption and CII verification programs, reviewing automated data from third-party verifiers (you will supervise administrative staff who handle the manual data entry and quarterly invoicing).
  • Global Collaboration: While you will operate independently on your daily casework, you will collaborate heavily via video meetings with a global network of 20+ technical managers to share knowledge, draft regulatory updates, and ensure uniform compliance.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Maritime Background: You must have a strong maritime background. Former Classification Society Surveyors, Flag/Port State Inspectors, or Seafarers (Licensed Master Mariners or Chief Engineers) are highly preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: A deep understanding of where to find, how to interpret, and how to apply International Maritime Conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
  • Work Ethic & Flexibility: A team player who thrives in a demanding, high-volume environment, doesn't easily stress, and takes pride in delivering rapid, accurate solutions to clients.
  • Bonus Points: Candidates with a technical background in Cruise/Passenger Ships or Yachting are highly desired, as we are rapidly expanding our fleet in these sectors!
Why Join Our Team?

We don't expect you to know everything on day one. We provide up to a full month of dedicated, hands-on training and continuous mentorship from industry veterans to ensure you are fully confident in our systems before taking on independent casework. Because we are a rapidly expanding global organization, there is significant room for upward mobility, leadership development, and long-term career growth.
