Job summary

International Registries, Inc. in Houston is seeking a Maritime Technical Specialist to join the Maritime Technical Department.

The role reports to the Regional Technical Manager and focuses on understanding ship types, IMO codes, and how conventions affect construction, operation, survey, and maintenance of vessels. You will review technical queries, support on-board maintenance of life-saving and firefighting systems, and assist with audits and technical status reviews.

Qualifications

• Understanding of IMO Codes and Conventions relevant to maritime operations.
• 3–5 years maritime experience with exposure to audits/inspections.
• Bachelor's degree; maritime-specific education or certifications preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and time-management skills.
• Willingness to travel for audits and inspections as required.

Responsibilities

• Interprets IMO and other relevant codes to advise stakeholders.
• Independently assess and recommend solutions for all vessel types.
• Understand the disciplines of the Service Area, familiar with IT systems and Help desk.
• Support trade/corporate compliance and maintain the Technical Status Board.
• Review and respond to technical queries on area of expertise.
• Prepare for audits as an external ISM/ISPS auditor and MLC inspector as needed.
• Collaborate with the Regional Technical Manager and other teams.
• Ensure timely and accurate handling of queries and recommendations.
• Travel as needed to support auditing and inspection activities.

Job description

The Maritime Technical Department is looking to add a Maritime Technical Specialist to join their team. This position will be based from Houston office.

The Maritime Technical Specialist will be working closely with Regional Technical Manager. The individual should have a basic understanding of the general arrangement and operations of various ship types and how the main Conventions affect the construction, operation, survey, and maintenance of a ship with a working knowledge of on board maintenance and servicing requirements of life-saving and fire-fighting systems.Should be capable of timely and accurate review of incoming queries and recommendations provided by Recognized Organizations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Interprets IMO and other relevant codes to advise stakeholders.
• Independently assess and recommend solutions for all vessel types.
• Understand the disciplines of the Service Area, becoming familiar with the following.
• IT systems and Help desk
• Trade/Corporate compliance
• Technical Status Board
• Standard Operating Procedures
• Review and respond to technical queries as assigned on the Technical Status Board in specific area of expertise
• Other duties as assigned
• Complexity of assignments will increase with experience.

Maritime Specific Education and Experience:

Maritime Specific Degree and Certifications.

Suitable maritime experience forming a basis for which to be further trained as an external ISM/ISPS auditor and MLC inspector on behalf of the Administrator (for example, but not limited to, experienced ex-seafaring officer, technical superintendent, qualified internal auditor, marine inspector, Class surveyor) would be an advantage.

Years of Experience:

3-5 years.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
