Job summary

The U.S. Coast Guard in Baltimore, MD seeks a civilian shipfitter/welder to perform journeyman shipfitting and fabricating tasks for marine craft and vessels.

Qualifications

• Experience in shipfitting and welding for marine craft and vessels.
• Ability to operate lifting gear and heavy equipment on job sites.
• Experience welding in 3F/4F positions using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW.

Responsibilities

• Perform journeyman shipfitting and fabricating tasks for construction, repair, overhaul and conversion of marine craft and vessels.
• Fabricate subassemblies: shell plates, frames, bulkheads, deck beams, ladders, pipe rails and hull components.
• Use plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torches for cutting, heating and burning materials.
• Move materials with lifting gear, cranes, slings and related equipment.
• Erect hull components on site according to alignment lines.
