Job summary

Fairlead Integrated, LLC. in Portsmouth, VA seeks a skilled shipfitter to repair, modify, install and dismantle shipboard hulls, bulkheads and decks. You will design fixtures and jigs to ensure precise alignment during welding, following blueprints and MILSPEC guidelines.

The role requires 3+ years of shipfitter experience, ability to read drawings, and proficiency with plasma cutting and oxy/fuel torches. Travel and overtime are required; valid access to government facilities is needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Assistant Foreman/Supervisor/Production Lead.
  • Follows PPE Policy.
  • Lays out material from drawings/blueprints before cutting/fitting.
  • Maintains housekeeping; turns off machines; disposes of waste.
  • Ensures tools on the Required Tools List are available within 30 days.
  • Follows QA procedures as per QA Manual.
  • Identifies and notifies supervisor of unsatisfactory conditions.
  • Fabricates and installs fixtures, jigs, supports and targets for welding alignment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Manages contractor and government materials.
  • Uses lay-out tools (scales, squares, trammel points).
  • Fits structural components to tolerance.
  • Adheres to safety and quality standards; travel and overtime required.
  • Performs work outside specific trade skills as needed.

201 WAVY - PORTSMOUTH, VA 23704 US (Primary)

Summary

Repairs, modifies, installs, and dismantles various shipboard hulls, bulkheads, or decks. Designs and fabricates fixtures and jigs.

Responsibilities
  • Reports directly to the Assistant Foreman/Supervisor/Production Lead.
  • Understands and follows PPE Policy.
  • Lays out material utilizing drawings and blueprints prior to performing cutting/fitting operations.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices, turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area, etc.
  • Ensures all tools listed on the “Required Tools List” are available for use within 30 days of employment.
  • Acknowledging that all requirements of the Quality Assurance Manual are followed when invoked by QA Workbook.
  • Identifies and notifies Supervisor of unsatisfactory conditions during the production operation.
  • Fabricates and installs fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during welding processes as directed by the Supervisor/Lead Mechanic.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Assumes responsibility for Contractor (CFM) and Government (GFM) furnished materials.
  • Ability to use lay‑out tools such as tool scales, squares, combination squares, trammel points.
  • Understands fitting of structural components using dogs, wedges, strong‑backs, etc.
  • Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, good housekeeping habits, high level of critical thinking/reading.
  • Travel and overtime are required.
  • Work outside specific trade skill as required.
Qualifications
  • Work Experience: Minimum 3+ years of Shipfitter experience.
  • Understands and performs the setup, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools used in the trade including plasma cutting machines and oxy/fuel torches.
  • Has knowledge of the following: shipboard plate (hull, deck, bulkhead) systems (repair/installation practices, procedures, alignments, and material requirements), blueprint reading and interpretation, MILSPEC requirements.
  • Must be able to fit structural components to tolerance requirements.
  • Tack and Fillet Weld qualifications preferred (FCAW/SMAW).
  • Must have the ability to gain access to military bases and various government facilities.
ADA Notifications

Involves heavy lifting, frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching and possible working assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces or beneath machinery either indoors or outdoors in the elements and noisy conditions.Occasional lifting 50+ pounds.

Job Requirements

Salary Grade: $23.42 - $35.12
