Job summary

Owen Daniels is expanding operations in Virginia Beach and seeking an experienced Network Design Engineer to lead secure maritime communications projects. You will design, integrate, and test solutions across satellite and RF links, ensuring robust, encrypted data flows and incident response readiness.

The role requires hands-on work with routers, switches, and radios, plus collaboration with software teams. Candidates should have relevant certifications and be eligible to work in the US.

Qualifications

• Experience in communications and networking roles
• Strong understanding of network security fundamentals — firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention, encryption
• Certifications such as CCNA, JNCP, MTCNA or equivalent practical experience
• Hands-on experience with radios for data transmission; WAN link integration
• Background in maritime operations or autonomous/remote vehicle deployment, including ROC integration
• Experience with cybersecurity best practices, incident response, and risk assessment
• Ability to work in maritime and field environments
• Legal right to work in the US and pass required background checks; some roles may require US Government security clearance

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement resilient and secure communications solutions for maritime applications
• Integrate multiple communication methods (satellite, RF) to build a robust backbone
• Ensure data transmission security with encryption and access controls
• Support installation, configuration, and field trials of communications equipment
• Write and optimize secure configurations for routers, switches, and devices
• Collaborate with software/engineering teams and document security procedures
• Troubleshoot network, communications, and security issues on-site and remotely
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new technologies and threats
