Job summary

Owen Daniels is expanding its Virginia Beach operations and seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer with marine sector expertise. You will design complex systems, select materials for harsh environments, and ensure robust performance through simulations and testing.

Collaborate with electrical engineers and naval architects to integrate subsystems, develop detailed drawings, and maintain documentation and configuration control for compliant, reliable designs.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degrees or certifications a plus.
• Expertise in 3D modelling software, such as Inventor or SolidWorks
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes relevant to maritime technology
• Strong knowledge of material selection for the marine environment, including corrosion mitigation
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for marine systems; class approval experience (Lloyd's/DNV-GL) beneficial
• Strong problem-solving skills and confident design justification through calculation, simulation, and testing
• Experience with prototyping, testing, and iterative design processes
• Ability to work in maritime and field environments

Responsibilities

• Use CAD software to create detailed 3D models and 2D part drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards
• Substantiate designs using analytical methods, FEA software, and simulation tools to validate integrity, performance, and safety
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, naval architects, and control systems engineers to ensure seamless integration
• Conduct material selection and evaluation, considering mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, weight, and cost-effectiveness
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specs, engineering drawings, and technical reports
• Maintain tight configuration control of design information and craft systems
• Commit to fast, hands-on learning through prototypes, simulation, and testing/validation

As part of this expansion, they are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience within the marine sector, with a strong understanding of material selection, FEA and 3D CAD design for complex systems.
