Job summary

Owen Daniels is expanding operations in Virginia Beach and seeking an experienced Network Design Engineer to lead secure maritime communications projects. You will design, integrate, and test solutions across satellite and RF links, ensuring robust, encrypted data flows and incident response readiness.

The role requires hands-on work with routers, switches, and radios, plus collaboration with software teams. Candidates should have relevant certifications and be eligible to work in the US.

Qualifications

• Experience in communications and networking roles
• Strong understanding of network security fundamentals — firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention, encryption
• Certifications such as CCNA, JNCP, MTCNA or equivalent practical experience
• Hands-on experience with radios for data transmission; WAN link integration
• Background in maritime operations or autonomous/remote vehicle deployment, including ROC integration
• Experience with cybersecurity best practices, incident response, and risk assessment
• Ability to work in maritime and field environments
• Legal right to work in the US and pass required background checks; some roles may require US Government security clearance

As part of this expansion, they are looking for an experienced Network Design Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience within the marine sector, integrating communication technologies and working across network design, cybersecurity and equipment configuration.

Job Summary

• Design, develop, and implement resilient and secure communications solutions, including PACE (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency) planning, with a focus on automation and cybersecurity
• Integrate and manage multiple communication methods, such as satellite and RF, to establish a robust, secure communications backbone
• Ensure security and integrity of data transmission across all channels, implementing encryption and access controls
• Support installation, configuration, and field trials of communications equipment with multidisciplinary teams
• Write, review, and optimize secure configurations for routers, switches, and other network devices on maritime craft
• Collaborate with software and engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions and comprehensive documentation, including security and incident response procedures
• Troubleshoot and resolve network, communications, and security issues remotely and on-site
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, cybersecurity threats, and best practices in maritime communications

Required and Desirable Experience
