Job summary

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks a Mariner assigned to BWT's Marine Section to operate vessel cargo loading/discharge, handle lines, and moor/unmoor boats within the five boroughs.

Duties include steering vessels, standing lookout, cleaning, scaling and painting, and performing heavy manual labor. Qualified candidates hold a USCG Able Seaman certificate or Merchant Mariner's document and must maintain it during employment; residency rules apply.

Qualifications

• A valid United States Coast Guard certificate as an Able Seaman, any waters, unlimited.
• A United States Merchant Mariner's document indicating endorsement as an Able Seaman, any waters, unlimited.
• The certificate or document described above must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate valves to load and/or discharge vessel cargo.
• Handle mooring lines and rigging vessels to docks.
• Moor/unmoor vessels and perform sailing operations as required.
