Qualifications
- Vocational technical school degree/certification or High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
- Two (4) years’ minimum experience in marine field and 2 years of Marine Systems Technician experience
- Specialization and/or certification in: Marine Trades
- Basic computer, reading, writing, and math (metric) skills
- Continuous mental and visual attention is required on a constant basis
- Requires working under somewhat disagreeable conditions on a frequent basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water or chemicals may be present
Responsibilities
- Specializes and performs complex mechanical installations and repairs, turbodiesel engines, hydraulic and propulsion systems, plumbing and utilizing knowledge of HVAC and electrical
- Repairs plumbing fixtures (head, sinks) and refrigeration (ice box) and applies sealant
- Installs/repairs intake and discharge fittings to provide water for plumbing and engine cooling
- Cuts holes for valves, outlets, and drives
- Inserts valve and outlet fittings through hole to provide watertight fit
- Installs other machinery such as motors, pumps, auxiliary systems, and struts, bearings, and underwater gear
- Ability to install, troubleshoot and diagnose complete mechanical systems without close supervision
- Able to meet work schedule
- Work is completed under minimal supervision of a lead man or supervisor
- May assist in the training of apprentice
- Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, installation manuals, and schematics
- Installs drive systems such as propellers, shafts and transmissions
- Has the ability to troubleshoot system problems and provide creative solutions for difficult system installations and repairs
- Minor woodworking, basic fiberglass and light metal fabrication may be expected
- Ability to communicate with clients and boat captains to assess and correct problems which requires diplomacy and excellent communication/people skills
- Follow defined instructions and procedures in performance of tasks
- Obey all safety rules and regulations and maintain safe, clean work area
- All work to be performed to Bradford Marine quality standards
- Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned
- Performs work on boats in and out of the water
