About You:
You are a highly skilled and motivated marine technician with a proven track record of diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vessel systems. Your expertise spans outboard motors, electrical systems, hydraulics, and general mechanical components. You are self-directed, possess excellent problem-solving abilities, and are comfortable working independently to deliver high-quality service to boat owners. As an independent contractor, you are organized, reliable, and committed to providing professional and efficient solutions.
Responsibilities:
* Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on outboard motors (all makes and models preferred).
* Diagnose and repair marine electrical systems, including AC/DC systems, wiring, lighting, and electronic components.
* Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including steering, trim tabs, and other hydraulically operated equipment.
* Perform general mechanical repairs and maintenance on various vessel components, such as pumps, plumbing, steering systems, and engine mounts.
* Conduct routine maintenance services, including oil changes, filter replacements, and system inspections.
* Accurately assess and estimate repair costs and timelines.
* Communicate effectively with boat owners regarding the scope of work, findings, and recommendations.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and time spent.
* Adhere to safety regulations and best practices in all work performed.
* Provide your own tools and transportation necessary to perform services at various locations (marinas, private residences, etc.).
* Manage your own invoicing and payment collection.
* Maintain necessary licenses and certifications as required.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience as a marine technician with expertise in outboard motors, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
* Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
* Excellent knowledge of marine industry standards and best practices.
* Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Reliable transportation and your own set of tools.
* Valid driver's license.
* Relevant certifications (e.g., ABYC certifications, manufacturer-specific training) are a plus.
* Proof of insurance as an independent contractor may be required.
Compensation:
This is an independent contractor position, and compensation will be project-based or hourly, to be negotiated based on experience and the scope of work.
