Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required and OEM certifications preferred.
• 6+ years of mechanical repair and installation experience.
• Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and use test instruments.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair marine gas and diesel engines from maintenance to overhaul.
• Repair/rebuild gearsets, transmissions and stern drives.
• Diagnose and repair carbureted and fuel-injected intake systems.
• Repair propulsion systems (transmissions, sail drives, stern drives).
• Diagnose and repair gensets and electrical systems.
• Perform winterization and spring commissioning of engines and ship systems.
• Install new engines, A/C systems, pumps, windlasses, and similar equipment.
• Perform mechanical repairs including water and waste systems and engine controls.

Larsen Marine in Waukegan is seeking experienced Marine Technicians! We offer great benefits including a 401K with company match, hourly compensation up to $55/hour, and a 4 day workweek in the off-season.

Our Marine Mechanics/Technicians are responsible for providing top-quality maintenance and repair services for our customers on a regular basis. They meet or exceed customer satisfaction standards as well as company sales and safety requirements.

This position requires the team member to work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day. A 4 day workweek may be offered in the off-season. Seasonal schedule changes may take place at management discretion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot and repair marine gas and diesel engines from maintenance to complete overhaul
• Repair/rebuild gearsets, transmissions and stern drives
• Diagnose and repair carbureted and fuel injected intake systems
• Repair propulsion systems such as transmissions, sail drives, stern drives, etc.
• Diagnose and repair various gensets, 12V and battery bank systems
• Perform winterization and spring commissioning of engines and ship systems
• Installations such as new engines, air conditioning systems, pumps, anchor windlass, and others as assigned
• Perform mechanical repairs including water systems, waste systems, steering systems, engine controls, pumps, etc.
• Help train and assist others as needed
• Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills and abilities
• Perform other duties as assigned or apparent

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

• Act with the highest level of integrity and maintain a positive attitude
• High school diploma required
• 6+ years of experience in the performance of mechanical repair and installation
• OEM certification(s)
• Ability to speak and read English and understand electrical wiring diagrams
• Ability to use test instruments
• Ability to use specialty tools as designated by OEM’s
• Must provide tools and test equipment
  • Specialty tools and diagnostics provided
• Strong electrical troubleshooting capabilities
• Experience in electrical and electronic installations
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job
• Strong work ethic and personal commitment
• Ability to work in a team environment to achieve team, department, and company goals
• Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
• Experience with a variety of internal combustion engines (diesel, inboard, outboard, etc.)
  • Diesel-only experience is welcome!
• Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work

Physical Requirements:

• Lift/carry up to 75 lbs unassisted
• Work at heights up to 30 feet
• Work around water
