Marine Technician

About the Company

Guardian Fire Protection Services, LLC., has been a leader in fire protection services in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC for over 40 years. Based in Rockville, MD, with an additional office in Baltimore, MD, we design, install, and inspect fire alarms, sprinkler systems, kitchen fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and kitchen hood/duct systems. We serve over 10,000 fire systems across the region, with ongoing inspection and repair services. Our growth is driven by strong sales, marketing, reputation, and acquisitions.

About the Opportunity

The Marine Technician will travel worldwide to marine vessels, performing installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire protection equipment. Due to the nature of marine work, travel may be required at short notice. This role involves high responsibility, as lives and assets depend on the quality and accuracy of work performed daily.

Compensation

  • Hourly salary, negotiable based on experience and background, discussed during interview.
  • Potential quarterly bonuses.

Job Duties

  • Assist Lead Mechanical Technicians with fire protection system installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • Inspect portable/semi-portable fire extinguishers.
  • Inspect and test Fire Suppression systems.
  • Inspect and test Galley Hood Water Washdown systems.
  • Inspect and test Fire Detection Systems (Gas suppression, CO2, INERGEN, FM-200).
  • Show eagerness to learn and grow as a valued employee.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • 1-5 years of marine experience/skills preferred.
  • Experience with USNS/MSC/MARAD/USCG/Maritime Academy vessels.
  • Basic mechanical skills with 1-2 years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record.
  • Full-time availability, flexible hours, overtime, short notice work.
  • Travel 75%+ including 25% international.
  • Ability to gain clearance for government sites and ports.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn NFPA 10, CFRs, OEM manuals, SOLAS, USCG regulations.
  • Understanding of tools and safety equipment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn system functionalities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally.
  • Certifications: NFPA 10, OSHA 10 (or willing to obtain).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, handle, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift/move heavy objects.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in various environments with potential exposure to noise, dust, heat, heights, etc.
  • Work at heights and confined spaces with safety equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools, including specialty tools.
