Job summary

Eyonzy seeks a Marine Superintendent to support the operations and management team for unaccompanied RoRo freight ferry services across the Irish Sea and into mainland Europe. You will be the vessels’ shore-side point of contact for day-to-day marine matters and ensure safety, environmental and operational requirements are consistently met.

This hands-on role involves acting as Company Security Officer, deputising DPA duties under ISM, leading internal and external audits, and advising Masters

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of experience as a Marine Superintendent (or equivalent shore-based role).
• Sea-going experience to Master level on RoRo vessels; Class 1 unlimited CoC preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ISM/ISPS codes and class requirements.
• Sound knowledge of international maritime regulations and industry standards.
• Excellent written English with strong reporting and documentation skills.
• Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing marine operations across the fleet and act as vessels' day-to-day contact for marine matters.

• Ensure vessels carry required procedures, certificates, publications, manuals and documentation.

• Follow audit plans and address non-conformities with corrective actions.
• Provide hands-on advice to vessel Masters on operational matters.
• Maximise operational efficiency and safety in line with the operating manual.
• Conduct internal ISM/ISPS/MLC/ISO audits and prepare vessels for external audits; support root-cause analysis.
• Sit as a member of the Shoreside Emergency Response Team.

About the company

Our client is an established operator of unaccompanied RoRo freight ferry services across the Irish Sea and into mainland Europe, part of a wider European shortsea shipping group. With a modern, actively managed fleet and a strong reputation for reliability in the freight ferry market, the business places real emphasis on marine safety and operational excellence, and is now looking to strengthen its shore-based marine team following a resignation.

About the role

As Marine Superintendent, you will support the operations and wider management team in providing marine operational expertise, ensuring vessels and crew consistently meet the company’s safety, environmental and operational requirements. You will be the vessels’ shore-side point of contact for day-to-day marine matters, acting as Company Security Officer (CSO) and carrying out or deputising Designated Person Ashore (DPA) duties in line with the ISM Code.

This is a hands-on, compliance-focused role at the heart of the fleet’s safe and efficient operation, working closely with vessel Masters and crews and playing an active part in the company’s audit, inspection and continuous improvement programmes.

What you will be doing

• Assist in the management of marine operations, ensuring company obligations are met across the fleet, and act as the vessels’ point of contact for day-to-day marine matters.
• Act as Company Security Officer (CSO) and carry out, or deputise, Designated Person Ashore (DPA) duties as per the ISM Code.
• Ensure vessels carry all required procedures, certificates, publications, operating manuals and documentation requested by flag state, class and the company.
• Assist with the development and implementation of policies, procedures and fleet notices, and ensure the company’s Safety Management System is applied consistently across operations.
• Ensure vessels comply with international and local regulations, including the ISM and ISPS codes, and client rules and procedures.
• Follow internal and external audit plans, and follow up on non-conformities and corrective action plans.
• Provide advice and hands‑on assistance to vessel Masters on operational matters.
• Maximise the operational efficiency and effectiveness of marine operations and marine equipment, in compliance with the company’s operating manual, with particular emphasis on health, safety and environmental performance.
• Conduct internal ISM/ISPS/MLC/ISO audits and inspections for assigned vessels, and prepare vessels for external audits — supporting vessel teams with corrective and preventive actions and root cause analysis, and following up through to close‑out.
• Sit as a member of the Shoreside Emergency Response Team.

What we are looking for

• Minimum two years’ experience as a Marine Superintendent (equivalent shore-based experience may also be considered).
• Sea-going experience to Master level, ideally on RoRo vessels, with a Class 1 unlimited CoC preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of maritime rules, regulations, codes and guidelines, including the ISM and ISPS codes and class requirements (preferred).
• Sound knowledge of international maritime regulations and industry standards.
• Excellent written English, with strong report writing and documentation skills.
• Flexibility to travel within the UK and Europe as required.
• A full UK driving licence.

What is on offer

A competitive salary of circa £60,000–£70,000 depending on experience, along with a benefits package that includes a car allowance during the six-month probation period, moving to a company car scheme thereafter.
