Job description

Technical Safety Audit and Compliance Manager

This position will be responsible for supporting the Safety Compliance team of Disney Cruise Line, assisting the Manager of Safety in ensuring compliance with the Disney Cruise Line Safety Management System, Disney Corporate Safety Standards (as applicable), and all relevant International, National, Flag State, and Local Regulations. The role involves continually seeking opportunities for technical safety improvement.

The manager will foster a strong safety culture through positive and proactive collaboration with all operational departments, including the identification, assessment, analysis, and resolution of a broad spectrum of Marine and Technical safety issues across the Disney Cruise Line Fleet and Islands.

Proficiency and knowledge areas include, but are not limited to: Engineering or Electrical Maintenance, Technical Operational Management of large complex Cruise ships.

Key areas include: propulsion systems, auxiliary generators, deck machinery, high voltage electrical installations, air conditioning, steering gear systems, fuel systems (including LNG Fuel systems), electronic Marine Control Systems, SOLAS Safe Return to Port systems, Fixed Firefighting Appliances and Life Saving Appliances, MARPOL pollution prevention equipment, and technical damage stability knowledge.

This position is based in Florida but may require international travel of 25% to 30%.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct audits and work effectively with team members.
  • Maintain trustworthy relationships with team, leadership, Cast, and Crew.
  • Develop critical listening skills during Safety Management System (SMS) audits and assess performance against standards.
  • Document audit findings in the corporate tracking system and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Prepare for audits and improve audit scopes based on findings.
  • Use technical knowledge to recommend safety improvements in collaboration with technical operations.
  • Assist in producing Safety messaging and Alerts.
  • Participate in Root Cause analysis of incidents.
  • Collaborate with Marine and Technical Operations on occupational injuries and preventative measures.
  • Participate in Shore Safety and Environmental Committees, preparing relevant presentations.
  • Review action plans for outstanding issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Liaise with Marine and Technical Operations to improve Safety Management System content and risk assessments.
  • Maintain or acquire knowledge of maritime regulations.
  • Assist in investigations and legal incident reports as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Technical Marine education with 5+ years of seagoing experience onboard large Cruise ships.
  • Experience in strategic listening, prioritization, and task initiation.
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to understand complex marine and technical systems.
  • Effective relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally and hold a valid passport.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teamwork, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills.
  • ISM Code Lead Auditor or completion of an ISO 9001 lead auditor course.
  • Knowledge of Classification Society Rules, ISM, SOLAS, MLC, ISPS, MARPOL, STCW, ILO, IGF Code, flag requirements, and Port State Control regulations.
  • Experience with US Coast Guard certification processes.
  • Knowledge of the US Public Health Vessel Sanitation Program for cruise industry personnel.
Required Education:
  • Qualified STCW Engineering Unlimited 2nd Engineer or above, or STCW Electrical Officer.
