Job summary

Socket.dev in San Francisco is seeking a hands-on assembler to build autonomous robots. You will assemble, inspect, and test complete vehicles, working closely with engineers to solve build problems and improve production processes.

You will own assembly quality, maintain accurate records, and help develop fixtures, instructions, and workflow to scale reliable hardware for production.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience assembling, maintaining, or repairing mechanical or electromechanical hardware.
• Confident using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and measuring equipment such as calipers.
• Able to read mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, and bills of materials, and follow test procedures accurately.
• Strong practical troubleshooting skills. You can explain what failed, what you checked, and where you need help.
• Careful workmanship and clear records. You catch mistakes, raise issues early, and take responsibility for the quality of your work.

Responsibilities

• Build robots: Assemble mechanical and electromechanical systems from drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
• Organisation and Inventory: Keep the production space organised, manage component tracing and procurement.
• Get the details right: Check fit, alignment, torque, cable routing, and seal installation.
• Inspect and test: Inspect incoming parts and completed assemblies; run leak checks and functional tests and record results.
• Troubleshoot and rework: Find causes of failures, perform repairs, and work with engineering for design changes.
• Keep builds traceable: Record part revisions, serial numbers, build steps, and test results.
• Keep production moving: Prepare build kits, track parts, flag shortages, keep tools organized.
• Improve the process: Develop fixtures, improve work instructions, and reduce build time.
• Feed learning back: Show engineers where designs are hard to assemble or service.
• Documentation: Maintain build instructions, rework notes, and test procedures.
