Job summary

bp is seeking a Marine Expert to provide subject matter expertise in marine aspects for projects, ensuring safe delivery of cargo and marine assurance across bp entities.

You will lead interface management with ships, terminals, and regulators, drive cost-aware, fit-for-purpose solutions, and contribute to risk assessments and project design from concept through operations.

Hybrid role based in Houston area with travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• STCW Class II/2 certification.
• Experience as Master / Chief Officer on LNG tankers.
• Knowledge of port and terminal operations for onshore and offshore.
• Knowledge of maritime codes, regulations and best practices.
• Operational experience with liquefied bulk gases.
• Ability to develop proposals for nautical design and operations.
• Ability to deliver clear, structured technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Provide marine design assurance for bp projects.
• Oversee marine and nautical interface with port authorities and ship/shore interfaces.
• Lead engagement with external parties to resolve marine issues.
• Support process safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, 3D models, PFD, P&ID).
• Lead marine project capability building within bp shipping teams.
• Support LNG trading with ship/shore assessments and contract input.
