Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years in marine mechanical engineering or propulsion systems.
  • Experience developing ship propulsion systems and propulsion control.
  • Experience with ship weight assessments and propulsion trade studies.
  • Ability to analyze configurations and prepare technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for government/contractor audiences.

Job description

Solvere Technical Group is seeking an experienced Marine Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) – Journeyman to support federal shipbuilding and acquisition programs. The successful candidate will provide engineering expertise in the analysis, design, optimization, and integration of ship propulsion systems, supporting the development of technical data packages, engineering reviews, and trade studies for U.S. Government maritime programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct engineering analyses of ship propulsion systems and propulsion alternatives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical data packages and engineering documentation.
  • Perform engineering trade studies to evaluate propulsion system configurations and ship design alternatives.
  • Develop propulsion system concepts, machinery arrangements, and propulsion control system designs.
  • Perform engineering analyses supporting propulsion system integration and optimization.
  • Conduct ship weight assessments related to propulsion equipment and associated mechanical systems.
  • Evaluate propulsion system performance and recommend design improvements.
  • Ensure designs comply with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Naval Vessel Rules (NVR), and applicable commercial ship design standards and regulations.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and provide engineering recommendations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, program management, and government stakeholders to support ship design, construction, modernization, and acquisition efforts.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Naval Vessel Rules (NVR), and commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of marine propulsion systems, propulsion control systems, machinery arrangements, and ship mechanical system integration.
  • Ability to conduct engineering analyses, perform propulsion configuration trade studies, and develop technical documentation.
  • Experience performing ship weight assessments and evaluating propulsion system configurations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate technical information to government and contractor personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional engineering experience in marine mechanical engineering or propulsion systems.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of documented experience developing ship propulsion systems, propulsion control systems, machinery arrangements, ship weight assessments, and conducting propulsion configuration trade studies.
  • Experience supporting federal shipbuilding or boatbuilding acquisition programs is preferred.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) ACAT I or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Level I shipbuilding programs is preferred.
TRAVEL:

Travel may be required based on program and customer needs.

SECURITY:

Active Secret (T3) security clearance required.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $90,000 to $97,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
