Job summary

Solvere Technical Group is hiring a Marine Mechanic to support maintenance, overhaul and upkeep of government vessels in Virginia Beach. You will dismantle, repair, install and align propulsion and hydraulic/electrical systems aboard RHIBs and related equipment, facing tight spaces and shipboard constraints.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 5 years of marine mechanic experience, USCG boating certification (or ability to obtain), passport, own tools, clean driving record, and

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on government vessels.
  • Performs equipment assessments and repairs; identify failures and potential failures.
  • Perform repairs and replacements of boat sponson collar systems.
  • Perform repairs and replacements of trailer components.
  • Perform regular maintenance such as oil and filter changes.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting, installation, and testing.
  • Greasing and component replacement.
  • Conduct operational testing and quality inspections prior to delivery.
  • Identify materials required for repairs and service; manage progress to standards.
  • Transport boats to/from client locations; must launch and recover boats for testing.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift safely.

Job description

The employee shall provide Support Services for maintenance, overhaul and upkeep of rigid hull inflatable boats for the USCG, USN, MSC and other Government agencies. The candidate must be able to support services for nonsupervisory work involving the dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing of a wide variety of marine machinery, equipment, and systems. The service is for systems such as propulsion machinery, propellers, etc. The work requires a practical knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components of diverse marine machinery and their attachments.


This includes detailed knowledge of the operating characteristics of the involved machinery, equipment, and systems; their functional relationships; the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices; and the unique environmental conditions under which work is performed aboard marine craft, for example, the lack of space between bulkheads and decks and the proximity of one type of machinery to another.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with a team performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on government vessels.

  • Performs equipment and component assessments and repairs. Be able to identify failures and potential failures. Be able to assess the condition of boat and components

  • Perform repairs and replacements of small boat sponson collar systems

  • Perform all manner of mechanical and electrical repairs and replacements of trailer components.

  • Perform regular schedule boat maintenance to include the following: Oil and filter changes

  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting, installation, and testing.

  • Greasing

  • Component replacement

  • Cleaning/ safety gear

  • Component repair

  • Conduct operational testing and quality inspections: Conduct operationally testing on the boat prior to delivery.

  • Maintenance Procedure Card processing

  • Identify materials required for repairs and service.

  • Managing progress and ensuring the work is performed correctly and on time, according to required standards, per contractual guidelines.

  • Informing management of progress status and requirements.

  • Transport boat using company provided vehicle to pick up and deliver boats to and from client locations around the continental US.

  • Must be able to launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation

  • Must be capable of operating a forklift safely


Desired Skills and Abilities:


  • Familiar with Mercruiser bravo series outdrives

  • Familiar with Caterpillar Marine Deisel engines

  • Familiar with Mercury Outboard engines

  • Familiar with Hamilton jet drives

  • Familiar with Cummins QSB 6.7 marine engines

  • Familiar with other various marine propulsion diesels under 300hp

  • Familiar with DC Systems and schematics


Job Qualifications:


  • Must have High School Diploma.

  • Must possess minimum of seven (5) years of experience as a marine mechanic.

  • Must have or be able to obtain current USCG approved boating course certification.

  • Must have or be able to obtain a passport.

  • Requires experience using various Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Prior experience with RHIB for federal or USCG boats is desirable.

  • Must provide a clean driving record.

  • Must provide your own tools and tool box.


Experience:


  • Marine Mechanic: 5 years (Required)


Travel:


  • CONUS and OCONUS Travel is required for this position. Travel will occur up to 10% of the time. Full per diem and company paid travel is provided.


Security:


  • Must pass a standard background check.


Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to work in an office, industrial or shipboard environment.

  • Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature.

  • Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.


Place of Performance:


  • This task shall be performed in the Industrial Park Area in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at our boat warehouse and repair facility.

  • Travel to include OCONUS locations.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $25.00 to $35.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and geographic location
