Job summary

Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation (UIC) seeks a QMED/Junior Engineer in Anchorage, Alaska, to assist with engineering maintenance, deck operations, line handling, and security duties. Responsibilities include vessel watch, cargo handling, and operating ship systems under the direction of the Vessel Master.

You should have 1–3 years in maritime work, pass physical requirements, and hold a TWIC, a U.S. passport, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–3 years of progressively responsible experience in the maritime industry.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator experience is required (loader, forklift, deck crane, skid steer).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold a valid U.S. Passport with at least six months before renewal.
  • Valid TWIC (minimum six months before renewal).
  • Valid driver's license with at least six months before renewal.
  • Ability to complete an annual Merchant Mariners physical and perform shipboard duties.
  • Strong communication and the ability to explain technical topics clearly.
  • Ability to write clearly to communicate technical information.

Responsibilities

  • Follow company policies, USCG, and environmental regulations.
  • Represent the Company to guests, customers, the public, and government bodies.
  • Demonstrate seaman skills, including line handling and rigging.
  • Assist with machinery maintenance, fuel transfers, and emergency duties.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair ship equipment (winches, cranes, vehicles).
  • Prepare and manage decks and rigging, cargo handling gear, and safety lines.
  • When on watch, monitor for obstructions, steer, and conduct security patrols.
