Job summary

UW Medicine's School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in Seattle seeks a Research Scientist Engineer Assistant to support collection, processing and analysis of groundfish stomach samples from Alaska expeditions. This 1.0 FTE permanent role reports to the Professor and involves field cruises and lab work.

Responsibilities include identifying stomach contents, maintaining data quality, assisting with report preparation, and exploring new methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and under 1 year of research experience or equivalent.
• Experience with taxonomic identification of aquatic taxa is preferred.
• Familiarity with data management practices and lab safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Taxonomically identify stomach contents of marine fish and enter data online.
• Participate in research cruises (fieldwork and sample collection).
• Maintain records and ensure quality control of lab analyses.
• Assist in reporting and publication of research results.
• Update prey specimen collections and explore new identification methods.
