Job summary

Carter Machinery Company is hiring an Apprentice Marine Shop & Field Technician in Chesapeake, Virginia. The role provides training to diagnose and repair marine engines and propulsion systems, advancing toward full accreditation under the Department of Labor Apprenticeship.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and post-secondary diesel or related program completion, or two years of mechanical experience. CAT tools training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of post-secondary diesel engine or related program or two years mechanical job experience.
• Proficiency with CAT electronic tools such as SIS and ET is preferred.
• Military equipment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose marine engines and propulsion systems.
• Perform standard mechanical repairs and complete overhauls on marine equipment.
• Prepare work orders, parts lists, and time cards accurately and timely.
• Document diagnoses and repairs in service reports.
