Job summary

The City of New York seeks a Marine Electronics Technician to oversee electronic control and monitoring systems aboard Staten Island Ferry vessels and terminals. You will apply independent judgment to maintain propulsion and auxiliary machinery using PLC-based controls.

Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing and calibrating medium voltage drives and power systems, updating PLC software, and coordinating safety tests with ABS and USCG.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree with specialization in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Electronic Technology, plus 4+ years' MV VFD and power systems experience.
• An associate degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology with 6+ years' MV VFD and PLC experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains, repairs and troubleshoots electrical/mechanical systems and controls forming the vessels' propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
• Assists in developing maintenance procedures and training programs for vessel engineers.
