Job summary

Merlin’s SEA LIFE team in California is seeking an Education Associate (Part-Time). You will deliver engaging talks, host interactive experiences, and inspire guests of all ages about marine life.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, science-related coursework, and strong public speaking skills. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is preferred; meaningful guest engagement and safety are central to the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Coursework in science, education, biology, marine science preferred.
• Strong public speaking and communication skills.
• Passion for education, conservation, and guest engagement.
• Ability to work effectively with children and families.
• Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented.
• Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging educational talks, demonstrations, and interactive experiences.
• Share knowledge about marine animals, conservation, and ecosystems.
• Create memorable experiences through exceptional guest service and interactions.
• Interpret exhibit information for individuals, families, school groups, and large audiences.
• Monitor animal conditions with emphasis on safety and welfare.
• Handle guest questions, crowd management, and service recovery professionally.
• Follow safety procedures and animal handling protocols.
• Assist with animal interactions following established procedures.
• Communicate safety, staffing, and facility concerns to leadership.
• Support team operations with break coverage and cross-department collaboration.
• Maintain a welcoming, energetic environment throughout the aquarium.
