Carter Machinery Co. Inc. in Elkridge, MD is seeking an Apprentice Marine Shop & Field Technician.

You will learn to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform standard mechanical repairs and overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems, under supervision and later accreditation. The 15-month program covers electrical, engines, and propulsion fundamentals; upon completion you earn accreditation from the Virginia Department of Labor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of post-secondary diesel engine or related program or two years of mechanical job experience required.
• Military equipment experience is a plus.
• Proficiency in CAT electronic tools and software (SIS, ET) preferred but training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform standard mechanical repairs on marine engines and propulsion systems.
• Complete overhauls and document service reports for work orders.
• Prepare work orders, parts lists, and time cards accurately and on time.
• Promote a positive customer experience and work as part of a team.

Job Title: Apprentice Marine Shop & Field Technician

Location: Elkridge, Maryland

Shift: 1st

Starting Compensation Range: $23.50 - $25.50 per hour

The Apprentice Marine Shop & Field Technician is provided training and development to accurately troubleshoot and diagnose and perform standard mechanical repairs and complete overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems. At the end of the 15 month program, the Apprentice is expected to understand electrical, marine engines and propulsion systems fundamentals and be fully accredited under the Department of Labor Apprenticeship.

Requirements for the Apprentice Marine Shop & Field Technician include:

• Self-starter able to work with limited supervision and meet deadlines
• Strong mechanical aptitude required
• Candidate should possess an excellent driving record
• Excellent customer satisfaction skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment required
• Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software required in position; able to complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to write service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed
• Must prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and time cards in an accurate and timely manner
• Must be self-directed, organized, able to interact with coworkers, and work as an integral part of a team
• Must have the ability to prioritize workload while providing excellent customer service
• Must be able to work all shifts and overtime as needed to meet customer needs

Seeking Candidates with:

• High school diploma or GED, required
• Completion of post-secondary diesel engine or related program or two years of mechanical job experience, required

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will receive an accreditation from The Virginia Department of Labor, officially becoming a certified Construction Equipment Technician. You'll be an integral part of our customers' success and have the opportunity to work with an array of diverse equipment. Carter's Apprenticeship Program is nationally recognized by the Federal Department of Labor and is fully accredited through the Commonwealth of Virginia.
