Job summary

Everett Public Schools is seeking a Marching Band Associate Director at Everett High School to assist the marching band director in coordinating and administering the program for instrumental music students.

The role is an extracurricular contract with a stipend; you will help select music, conduct try-outs, organize band camps, supervise practices, and manage equipment and tours to ensure a high-quality marching band experience for students in Everett.

Qualifications

Valid Massachusetts Teaching Certification.
Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.
Expertise in instrumental music.
Expertise in conducting a competitive marching band.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director to choose all music to be performed during the marching band season.

Marching Band Associate Director

POSITION PURPOSE :

To assist the marching band director to coordinate, organize, and administer the Marching Band program and provide an effective program of experience for Everett High School instrumental music students.

This is considered an extracurricular contract.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May Include)

1. Performance Responsibilities

Assist the Director to Choose all music to be performed during the marching band season.
Assist with Conducting try-outs for drum majors and any special units.
Assist with Conducting a Band Camp during the summer.
Assist with the design of band performances.
Assist with the Supervision and direct all practices and performances of the marching band.

2. Administration

Assist the Marching Band Director in planning practice activities and performances of the marching band in accordance with the School District Policy for the marching band.
Assist with coordinating a performance schedule and bus departure time schedule to the high school principal and Directors of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction.
Assist with maintaining an accurate inventory of all equipment and uniforms used by the marching band (i.e. uniforms, instruments, music, rifles, flags, batons, etc.)
Assist with maintenance, repair, overhaul, and storage of all marching band equipment.
Assist with Planning, supervision, and administer any overnight music festival tours in accordance with the school district policy.
Assist with Providing the high school principal with an accurate roster of marching band members for eligibility lists.
Follow the guidelines in regards to student eligibility in extracurricular activities.
Make appropriate arrangements for use of facilities and practice fields through communication with the Director of Athletics, the high school principal and the use of the district’s online scheduling system.

3. Financial Responsibilities

Assist with accurate records of all receipts, deposits, and expenditures.
Maintain any websites and/or social media platforms associated with the marching band.

4. Supervisory Responsibilities

Marching Band staff, volunteers, and students involved in assigned activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION

Valid Massachusetts Teaching Certification
Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience
Demonstrates expertise in knowledge and teaching of instrumental music.
Demonstrates expertise in conducting a competitive marching band
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate or acceptable.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to write reports and correspondence consistent with the duties of this position.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
