Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Marching Band Director with directing activities such as practice sessions, games, performances and meetings.

  • Maintain attendance records and paperwork for band activities.
  • Accompany the band at all practice sessions and school events, including tours.
  • Lead after-school practice sessions for elite performance groups and conduct performances when required.
  • Instruct and monitor band members in marching techniques and supervise the percussion coach.
  • Encourage excellence through practice, music theory, and positive instruction.
  • Be responsible for the facility during assigned activities and adhere to school policies.

Job Description

To assist the Marching Band Director with the responsibility for directing and supervising appropriate activities as practice sessions, games, performances, parades, pep rallies, competitions, and meetings. Directly responsible to the building principal.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Assist student in scheduling and planning practice sessions and meetings.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior, to provide an orderly productive environment for all band related activities.
  • Maintain necessary attendance records and paper work.
  • Must accompany the band at all practice sessions, home and away games and other school-sanctioned activities.
  • Schedules and conducts after school practice sessions for elite performance groups including, but not limited to, Jazz Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, and other instrumental ensembles.
  • Attends to duties as conductor at all scheduled performances of the band, including, but not limited to, those in the daily class schedule, those scheduled outside the normal school day, such as fall concert, spring concert, Pops Concert, and recital night, and may include “tour events” as scheduled at out of town or out of state locations.
  • Takes a leadership role in instructing and monitoring band members in superior marching Band techniques.
  • Supervises Marching Band Percussion Coach to ensure quality instruction and performance in that area of the band.
  • Encourages excellence in the performance level of all band students through individual and small group practice sessions, application of sound music theory and technique, and positive instructional techniques.
  • Assume responsibility for the facility or area in which assigned activity is conducted at all times students are present.
  • Assumes responsibilities for related duties that may be assigned by the building principal.
  • Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
Experience
  • Preferably a member of the High School teaching staff.
  • Experience and background in music and marching techniques.
Qualifications
  • Dedication to the service of youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate favorably with students.
