Calex Manufacturing Inc., which was acquired by Murata Power Solutions in 2018, has been in business for more than 50 years, designing and manufacturing DC-DC power converters for automotive, transportation and industrial applications. In recent years, Calex has been developing products for emerging markets such as drones, autonomous driving, hybrid and electric vehicles, in addition to the legacy products.

Calex is located in beautiful Northern California, approximately 50 miles north of San Jose and 30 miles east of San Francisco. Our corporate facility is in the city of Concord which is within easy commute distance of affordable housing, a rare trait for the Bay Area.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a motivated and qualified Assembly Technician with manufacturing product assembly and finish experience to join our team. This is a direct-hire opportunity that comes along with great benefits!

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Typical activities include set-up, loading and operation of light manufacturing machinery and inspection of SMT assemblies. Expected to follow well defined methods and procedures, using judgment and interpretation
  • Prepare and pull parts for job
  • Solder parts using soldering iron or wave solder machines
  • Inspect for potential failures (solder bridges, incorrectly inserted parts, etc.)
  • Read and interpret drawings
  • Kit and enter jobs
  • Complete manufacturing documentation correctly
  • Set up and verify equipment performance, as assigned by team leader
  • Set up SMT equipment for previously programmed models.
  • Load and operate SMT equipment which includes the pick and place machine, the stencil machine and the reflow oven.
  • Inspect and rework SMT assemblies for workmanship under microscope
  • Program and set up light guided insertion machine.
  • Setup and testing of FW and test program/specification
  • Setup the test fixture


Facilities Assistant

  • Install, maintain, and repair all manufacturing process equipment, tools and fixtures in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules, prints, specifications, rough sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Trouble shoot machinery breakdowns and repair or replace defective equipment and components following the same instruction set as indicated above.
  • Plan, purchase supplies, and install electrical service for new and/or relocated production machinery.
  • Modify/update production equipment as needed.
  • Document and maintain up to date procedures (work instructions) for all manufacturing process equipment.
  • Assist in operator training and establishment of maintenance programs for new manufacturing tools and equipment.
  • Assist in repair of product assemblies or customer returns.
  • Calibrate tools, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
  • Correct safety discrepancies as needed.
  • Change the floor layout as needed.
  • Hazardous chemical handling and disposal.
Experience Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic data entry skills
  • 1-3 years related on the job experience
  • SMT experience preferred
  • Must meet and exceed established productivity and quality goals
  • Responsible for individual accuracy and timeliness of work
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Able to work independently on assigned tasks

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear and use hands to operate equipment and handle materials and parts. Occasionally required to detect odors, stoop, kneel and reach with hands and arms and to crouch, crawl, climb or balance. Must be able to frequently lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

While performing essential responsibilities, the employee regularly works near moving parts, is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and to toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasionally exposed to vibration and extreme heat. The noise level is usually moderate.

Compensation Data

Pay range for this role is $22.75/hour - $24.40/hour.
