Job summary

Lexington Mfg Inc in Minnesota is seeking a Manufacturing Quality Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This on-site, part-time internship lets you own projects on the shop floor and apply Lean and quality concepts in real manufacturing settings.

You will work four days a week in Coon Rapids, focusing on improving inspection processes, removing waste, and modernizing documentation with digital tools or AI. A hands-on role that builds practical skills in quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related degree.
• Completed at least 1 year of college coursework.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Interest in manufacturing, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Comfortable working both independently and on the shop floor.
• Bonus: strong writing skills or interest in improving documentation (using digital tools or AI).

Responsibilities

• Own projects and see them through.
• Improve inspection and quality processes across key manufacturing work centers.
• Identify and eliminate inspection-related waste.
• Evaluate current inspection methods, notes, and capabilities.
• Conduct studies to validate and improve process effectiveness.
• Recommend practical upgrades to inspection capabilities.
• Support Lean initiatives and CIF projects.
• Lead improvement projects from start to finish.
• Audit and streamline ~500 controlled documents (WIs/JIs).
• Use tools (including AI) to modernize documentation.
• Work directly with operators, engineers, and quality teams.
