Job description

Overview of Role

ZwitterCo is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer to lead process improvements and scale up activities at the Technology Innovation Center and external manufacturing sites.

The right candidate for this role has a history of collaborating with R&D on product development to optimize chemical and fabrication processes and achieve full scale production.

ZwitterCo has advanced the state of the art of membrane-based filtration performance across a range of industries and has set equally high standards for the Manufacturing organization. This role will be a key contributor and has the freedom to build an efficient and adaptive production operation that enables worldwide volume shipments of uncompromising quality. Candidates who thrive in fast-paced, self-critical, growth environments are encouraged to apply.

About ZwitterCo

ZwitterCo has developed a breakthrough in materials science, a new class of zwitterionic membranes with unprecedented fouling resistance, making it practical to filter challenging water, wastewater, and process streams. Our products are recognized as the premier tools for reusing wastewater, bringing new and impaired water resources into circulation, and maximizing efficiency in food and ingredient separations.

ZwitterCo was named Global Water Intelligence’s 2023 Breakthrough Water Technology Company of the year and Fast Company’s Top Innovators of 2024. The Company has commercial operations in numerous food and beverage, agricultural, and industrial sectors around the world and continues to advance its technology platform to unlock broader water, wastewater, and process applications.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a manufacturing process engineer who can lead production scale-up activities requiring effective technology transfer from R&D scientists. Responsibilities include improving processes in polymer chemistry and coating lines to support technological advancements.

Core to this role is becoming the technical subject matter expert in polymer chemistry scale up, optimizing production equipment efficiency, utilization, and correlation to improve finished product quality. This includes leading process equipment improvements, process safety compliance, and overseeing all process design changes.

As a manufacturing process engineer, you will:

  • Optimize the polymer chemistry line, coating, and fabrication process to improve production up-time, process efficiency, productivity, and process cost-effectiveness.
  • Design and conduct experiments to evaluate and optimize process parameters and performance.
  • Provide process safety design and guidance to R&D scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the alignment of membrane products with the new product introduction programs.
  • Work closely with the product development team to support the quick turn of prototype runs.
  • Implement process changes and monitor their impact on quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process issues and deviations.
  • Document and communicate process information and best practices via process descriptions, P&ID’s, and SOP’s
  • Support scale-up projects at external manufacturers including installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and processes.
  • Train and coach operators and technicians on process operation and maintenance
  • Work closely with equipment providers as the prime point of contact on all topics related to troubleshooting, upgrades, and new equipment selections as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Additional qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading or participating in the selection, design, and implementation of PLC driven electro-mechanical process equipment.
  • 5+ years of experience with chemistry/materials science-based operations inclusive of pilot scale chemical production, roll-to-roll production operations and industrial filter fabrication processes
  • Desire to take on and lead the scale-up production and prototyping processes.
  • Working knowledge of equipment control logic designs.
  • Prior start-up experience is desired or a demonstrated history working in high growth, challenging environments.
