Job description

Manufacturing Manager - Aerospace Manufacturing $140k-$170k
Location:

LA County, CA

Summary

An established aerospace manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Manufacturing leader to oversee multiple production lines at its manufacturing lines at its LA county facility. The company is a precision manufacturer leading aerospace Primes and Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers and operates in an AS9100-certified environment. This is an opportunity for a hands‑on, experienced leader with aerospace machining experience to take ownership of production performance, lead through front‑line supervisors, and drive improvements in productivity, quality, cost, and delivery.

The ideal candidate combines operational and financial acumen with a practical, shop‑floor leadership style and the flexibility to thrive in a smaller manufacturing environment. For an ambitious leader ready to take the next step, this position offers a potential path to Plant Manager and additional leadership opportunities within a larger aerospace manufacturing organization.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily production across multiple manufacturing lines, providing leadership and direction to front‑line supervisors and their production teams.
  • Manage machining, grinding, heat treating, and related precision manufacturing operations to meet production schedules, quality standards, and customer commitments.
  • Maintain financial and operational accountability for assigned production lines, including labor costs, productivity, scrap, rework, throughput, and other key performance metrics.
  • Manage production‑line P&L performance, monitor results against budgets and targets, and implement corrective actions to improve operating margins.
  • Develop, coach, and hold supervisors accountable for team performance, safety, quality, and production results.
  • Establish production priorities, allocate resources, resolve bottlenecks, and coordinate staffing and equipment needs to maximize output and efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimization, waste reduction, cost control, and manufacturing performance.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Planning, and other functions to resolve production challenges and support new processes and product requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with AS9100 requirements, aerospace customer standards, work instructions, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Remain actively engaged on the production floor, troubleshooting issues and working directly with supervisors and operators when needed.
  • Contribute to broader operational planning and improvement initiatives while developing the capabilities needed to assume greater responsibility for facility‑wide performance.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of manufacturing leadership experience, ideally in precision machining or a similarly complex manufacturing environment.
  • Strong aerospace manufacturing experience, with a demonstrated understanding of machining operations and production processes.
  • Experience overseeing multiple production lines, departments, or manufacturing teams through front‑line supervisors.
  • Demonstrated accountability for production performance, including labor efficiency, throughput, quality, delivery, and cost management.
  • Experience managing manufacturing budgets, operating expenses, or production P&L performance.
  • Knowledge of machining, grinding, and related precision manufacturing processes; in‑house heat treating experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 and aerospace customer quality requirements preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience and demonstrated leadership capability will be considered.
  • Strong problem‑solving, organizational, communication, and people‑management skills.
  • A hands‑on leadership style, with the willingness to spend significant time on the production floor rather than managing exclusively from an office.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to take on a broad range of responsibilities in a lean manufacturing organization.

This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on manufacturing performance while building a long‑term career within a larger aerospace manufacturing organization. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand their operational responsibilities and potentially progress into Plant Manager, followed by additional leadership opportunities within the parent company's Southern California manufacturing network.

Work Schedule

This is a full‑time, onsite leadership position in a production environment that operates six days per week. The role requires a flexible schedule, extended hours as needed to support production, and a minimum commitment of approximately one Saturday per month.
