Job description

Job Summary: The Painter Technician is responsible for preparing and painting components and parts to meet quality and safety standards in order to prepare them for shipping. (Further development of responsibilities may be needed.)

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • HS diploma or equivalency preferred. A combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Previous painting experience (6 months to 5 years), including mixing and applying automotive-grade, three-part epoxy paint on small and large assemblies.
  • Ability to read and communicate in English.
  • Ability to interpret documents, work instructions, UL standards, and written directions.
  • Proficiency in using computers and entering information into databases.
  • Knowledge of measurement tools, such as tape measures.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safe work practices and guidelines for paint waste disposal, cleanup, and storage.
  • Operate forklifts for moving large components.
  • Disassemble and reassemble paint guns.
  • Assist with troubleshooting paint gun, pump, and booth systems.
  • Apply general painting practices with attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively with peers and supervisors regarding issues.
  • Participate in quality inspections and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintain an organized workspace and ensure equipment is cleaned and serviced regularly.
  • Follow all legal and safety regulations.
  • Understand equipment, standards, and manufacturing practices related to Generator enclosures and power switchgear.
  • Identify and follow procedures for non-conforming materials, tracking and recording NCRs.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality departments for product improvement.
  • Prepare and mix paint (primer and topcoat) and apply to parts and assemblies according to standards.
  • Inspect wet and dry paint thickness to ensure quality and durability.
  • Monitor material levels and report shortages or issues.
  • Maintain, clean, and service equipment regularly.
  • Communicate with vendors and supervisors to improve processes.
  • Report concerns related to material shortages and equipment needs to the production supervisor.

Level 1 Performance Expectations: Trained in loading/unloading the Powder Coat Line, competent in reading documents, attentive to detail, timely in completing work, and knowledgeable about department procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and handle heavy equipment and cables.
  • Manual dexterity for operating digital equipment and controls.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, standing and walking throughout the day.
  • Work may occur indoors or outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions; the environment can be noisy and active.
