Job summary

Domtar in Kingsport, Tennessee is seeking an Assistant Business Controller to partner with plant leadership and drive sound financial decisions across the operation. This full-time role reports to the Business Controller and focuses on cost performance, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.

You will lead month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and support capital projects, while coaching the accounting team and ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• At least five years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, including supervisory or management responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience working in an ERP environment; SAP experience is strongly preferred.
• MBA/CMA are highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate and timely internal, external, and management financial reporting.
• Partner with business/operational leaders to provide financial insight, support cost-effective decisions, and align financial strategy with business objectives.
• Lead analysis for operating and capital projects to improve site performance, profitability, and return on investment.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement focused on cost control, profitability, efficiency, and operational performance.
• Coordinate and review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities and reporting in accordance with corporate deadlines.
• Support and oversee the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the facility.
• Ensure reported financial results accurately reflect operational activity and performance.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, GAAP, internal-control requirements, audit standards, and applicable legal or regulatory requirements.
• Support the accounting team through coaching, task delegation, performance management, succession planning, and recruiting.
• Participate in broader finance and operational initiatives designed to enhance reporting quality, processes, and organizational effectiveness.
