Lead a team of approximately 10 people. Manage assignments of staff to projects. Develop team member skills, progression plans, and performance reviews, and provide growth opportunities, recognition, and rewards. Monitor and provide training, mentoring, and onboarding for team members. Hire and terminate employees within the discipline. Employee performance management, including annual performance reviews.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  1. Oversee the completion of project deliverables from the team to meet objectives. Provide oversight for employee technical performance for the group.
  2. Manage acquisition, repair, and maintenance of tools, molds, and other handling equipment, involving coordination with other departments/locations.
  3. Review department documents to ensure standards and best practices are followed in drawings, specifications, plans, reports, and design reviews.
  4. Develop, implement, and monitor improved project processes, tools, metrics, and skills to enhance product launches.
  5. Report weekly on project and organization status.
  6. Distribute and enforce policies and guidance from Senior Management.
  7. Manage area goals and objectives.
  8. Own area key performance indicators and adjust performance as required.
  9. Attend required leadership classes (Leadership Essentials annually, New supervisor class).
  10. Meet regularly with the group to pass information up and down.
  11. Provide training to department personnel. Develop and implement standard operating procedures.
  12. Mentor other engineers and technicians in best practices.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college in an Engineering field or equivalent. Manufacturing Engineering and Mechanical Engineering preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in Engineering supporting manufacturing and/or product development. Leadership experience is preferred.
  • Leadership skills: Ability to work within and develop high-performing teams; strong team player; strong customer orientation.
  • Technical skills - Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans, drawings, and models. Applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment in design and production.
  • Technical skills – Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control, including Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Communication skills: Effective communication at all levels, strong presentation skills, clear articulation, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Organization: Ability to coordinate efforts, organize, prioritize, communicate technical issues, and supervise a diverse team to meet standards.
  • Project Management: Ability to drive projects to completion, defining scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Problem Solving: Analyzing complex issues, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD software (Creo preferred), ERP, and MES systems.
  • Attention to detail, troubleshooting skills, professionalism, punctuality, dependability, and proficiency in English.
